DESCRIPTION:Shirring is a magical technique that shrinks a piece of fabric and transforms it into something stretchy. \nIn this class you will set up the machine\, cut the fabric to the correct size\, create a narrow topstitched hem & straps and learn all the techniques required to create you own shirred top or dress with tie straps for yourself or a child. \nIf you are planning to make a dress for a child or someone else\, please bring their chest/full bust measurement. \nThis class is not for the complete beginner\, you will need to know how to use a sewing machine and be able to sew straight lines! \nGingham fabric is perfect for this task as the lines are already there for you\, but any cotton or cotton blend fabric with suit\, if in doubt just ask!. \nYou will need between 50cm and 1.5m depending on whether you are making a child dress or adult top or dress. We are sure you wont stop at one! \nUsing a pre-cut 5-inch charm pack\, and co-ordinating fabric you will learn 2 basic blocks – Half Square Triangles and Checkerboard\, which make up this quilt design. \nYou will piece together the blocks\, step by step and learn the importance of precise seam allowances. \nOnce pieced together\, you will then learn about adding a border to complete the quilt top. \nYou will then ‘sandwich’ the quilt using batting and backing and use simple quilting effects with the sewing machine. \nWe will then show you how to finish off your quilt with binding. DESCRIPTION:This is a perfect class for keen dressmakers wanting to extend their pattern cutting knowledge who may have also already attended our Copy That Garment class. \nIn this workshop you will learn the basics of Pattern Cutting\, using only your own measurements to create your own unique pattern for a loose fitting pair of trousers or shorts (with pockets!) and then make them up! (Please note you may not completely finish your trousers – but will leave with the knowledge to do so). \nAn understanding of how patterns work is an essential part of dressmaking skills and ultimately  helping you to create a good fit. Our wonderful tutor Clare is a qualified pattern cutter and has years of experience in designing & making clothes and also being very much a part of our tutor team\, always ready to share her huge knowledge & skills with you. \nDuring the class there will be LOTS of knowledge shared along with skills on ‘How To’ theoretically change the pattern to a more ‘fitted’ trouser version. \nAs you will be taking very specific measurements during the class you will be unable to make the pattern for someone else on the day\, however the skills you will learn will enable you to do this in your own time should you wish to. \nYou must be experienced in sewing from a clothing pattern\, this class is not suitable for beginners. \nYou will need: (all available on the day if preferred) \nFabric to make up your pattern – approx 2.5mx 1.5m wide or 3m x 1.1m wide (trousers) 1.5m (shorts) \nElastic – 1m soft \nPattern paper – included \n  \nPlease feel free to bring your own sewing box and/or machine – but we have everything available in the studio should you like to use ours. \n  \n  \n

Start off by learning how to thread your machine and adjusting tension. \nLearn about adjusting stitch length and diferential feed. \nOur tutor will guide you through a series of samples to help you master your overlocker including rolled hem & 3 and 4 thread overlocking. \nYour overlocker must be in working order \nPlease bring with you your overlocker\, thread\, power lead & foot pedal\, instruction book and tool kit (tweezers\, needle threader etc) all fabric samples etc are provided\, no need to bring anything else. \nWe have 3 overlockers that can be used on the day and will need to be reserved. \nPlease note: this is not a suitable class if you have a combined Overlock and Coverstitch machine\, please contact us for alternative suggestions \n

DESCRIPTION:Shirring is a magical technique that shrinks a piece of fabric and transforms it into something stretchy. \nIn this class you will set up the machine\, cut the fabric to the correct size\, create a narrow topstitched hem & straps and learn all the techniques required to create you own shirred top or dress with tie straps for yourself or a child. \nIf you are planning to make a dress for a child or someone else\, please bring their chest/full bust measurement. \nThis class is not for the complete beginner\, you will need to know how to use a sewing machine and be able to sew straight lines! \nGingham fabric is perfect for this task as the lines are already there for you\, but any cotton or cotton blend fabric with suit\, if in doubt just ask!. \nYou will need between 50cm and 1.5m depending on whether you are making a child dress or adult top or dress. You may purchase fabric on the day and therefore only pay for what you need. \nYou will also need one or two spools of shirring elastic \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:This is a perfect class for keen dressmakers wanting to extend their pattern cutting knowledge who may have also already attended our Copy That Garment class. \nIn this workshop you will learn the basics of Pattern Cutting\, using only your own measurements to create your own unique pattern for a loose fitting pair of trousers or shorts (with pockets!) and then make them up! (Please note you may not completely finish your trousers – but will leave with the knowledge to do so). \nAn understanding of how patterns work is an essential part of dressmaking skills and ultimately  helping you to create a good fit. Our wonderful tutor Clare is a qualified pattern cutter and has years of experience in designing & making clothes and also being very much a part of our tutor team\, always ready to share her huge knowledge & skills with you. \nDuring the class there will be LOTS of knowledge shared along with skills on ‘How To’ theoretically change the pattern to a more ‘fitted’ trouser version. \nAs you will be taking very specific measurements during the class you will be unable to make the pattern for someone else on the day\, however the skills you will learn will enable you to do this in your own time should you wish to. \nYou must be experienced in sewing from a clothing pattern\, this class is not suitable for beginners. \nYou will need: (all available on the day if preferred) \nFabric to make up your pattern – approx 2.5mx 1.5m wide or 3m x 1.1m wide (trousers) 1.5m (shorts) \nElastic – 1m soft \nPattern paper – included \n  \nPlease feel free to bring your own sewing box and/or machine – but we have everything available in the studio should you like to use ours. \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the wonderful world of FPP which is suitable for confident beginners and beyond. \n\n\n\n\nWhat is Foundation paper piecing?\nIt involves using small scraps of fabric and machine stitching them to a paper template to create clever patchwork\, it is a precision piecing method\, which uses paper both as a pattern and a stabiliser\, and this helps to produce perfect designs and precision points.\nLots of different designs can be used in numerous creative tasks.\nWe will have a choice of designs for you to try.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAn all inclusive class: Fabric and paper pattern included \nWe have lovely Janome workshop machines for you to use\, but feel free to bring your own machine if preferred. \n  \n
