DESCRIPTION:This is a perfect class for keen dressmakers wanting to extend their pattern cutting knowledge who may have also already attended our Copy That Garment class. \nIn this workshop you will learn the basics of Pattern Cutting\, using only your own measurements to create your own unique pattern for a loose fitting pair of trousers or shorts (with pockets!) and then make them up! (Please note you may not completely finish your trousers – but will leave with the knowledge to do so). \nAn understanding of how patterns work is an essential part of dressmaking skills and ultimately  helping you to create a good fit. Our wonderful tutor Clare is a qualified pattern cutter and has years of experience in designing & making clothes and also being very much a part of our tutor team\, always ready to share her huge knowledge & skills with you. \nDuring the class there will be LOTS of knowledge shared along with skills on ‘How To’ theoretically change the pattern to a more ‘fitted’ trouser version. \nAs you will be taking very specific measurements during the class you will be unable to make the pattern for someone else on the day\, however the skills you will learn will enable you to do this in your own time should you wish to. \nYou must be experienced in sewing from a clothing pattern\, this class is not suitable for beginners. \nYou will need: (all available on the day if preferred) \nFabric to make up your pattern – approx 2.5mx 1.5m wide or 3m x 1.1m wide (trousers) 1.5m (shorts) \nElastic – 1m soft \nPattern paper – included \n  \nPlease feel free to bring your own sewing box and/or machine – but we have everything available in the studio should you like to use ours. \n  \n  \n

Start off by learning how to thread your machine and adjusting tension. \nLearn about adjusting stitch length and diferential feed. \nOur tutor will guide you through a series of samples to help you master your overlocker including rolled hem & 3 and 4 thread overlocking. \nYour overlocker must be in working order \nPlease bring with you your overlocker\, thread\, power lead & foot pedal\, instruction book and tool kit (tweezers\, needle threader etc) all fabric samples etc are provided\, no need to bring anything else. \nWe have 3 overlockers that can be used on the day and will need to be reserved. \nPlease note: this is not a suitable class if you have a combined Overlock and Coverstitch machine\, please contact us for alternative suggestions \n

DESCRIPTION:This is the class for you if you have a Brother Scan N Cut machine & perhaps need to gain some new skills or at least learn the basics\, or if you’d like to learn how this machine could enhance your creativity.\nYou will need to bring your Scan N Cut machine to the class along with power lead\, cutting mat and tools. We also recommend bringing a laptop or iPad if you have one.\nPrice reduction of you purchased your Scan n Cut machine from us. \nWe will help you learn how to get to grips with your machine including: \n\nIntroduction to your Scan N Cut\nChanging settings\nConnecting to  wifi\nAdd shapes\, duplicate and flip and rotate.\nLoading your mat & problem solving\nDifferent cutting blades\nUsing the drawing tool and Universal Pen Holder\nUsing various functions\nSaving shapes and designs\nPractice sessions\n\nThe class size is small so this will allow the tutor to work with your own level of confidence and experience. \nWe have 2 machines available to borrow for anyone who does not currently own a scan n cut machine. \n

Start off by learning how to thread your machine and adjusting tension. \nLearn about adjusting stitch length and diferential feed. \nOur tutor will guide you through a series of samples to help you master your overlocker including rolled hem & 3 and 4 thread overlocking. \nYour overlocker must be in working order \nPlease bring with you your overlocker\, thread\, power lead & foot pedal\, instruction book and tool kit (tweezers\, needle threader etc) all fabric samples etc are provided\, no need to bring anything else. \nWe have 3 overlockers that can be used on the day and will need to be reserved. \nPlease note: this is not a suitable class if you have a combined Overlock and Coverstitch machine\, please contact us for alternative suggestions \n

SUMMARY:Row by Row - 4 week course 7th - 28th March
DESCRIPTION:During the 4 workshop sessions (7th\, 14th\, 21st\, 28th March)  you will start to put together these wonderful blocks and then work at home to complete each Row. This particular quilt works well with plain fabrics in any colour co-ordination to suit you. The course is perfect for anyone wishing to extend their patchwork & quilting skills as each session will aim to create 3 blocks ranging in difficulty. These blocks are then replicated at home to complete 3 rows of the quilt\, or the individual blocks can be used in separate projects such as cushions or a sampler quilt as desired. Once completed the row blocks are put together with a Quilt as You Go method and there will also be an opportunity to practice this during the course. Printed instructions are given for each row. You will practice & learn the following: \n\nprecise cutting using rotary cutter & rulers\nprecise piecing\nUnderstanding colour\nQuilting techniques\n\nYou may use one of our lovely Janome workshop machines or bring your own machine if preferred (in which case you will need a 1/4” foot) We will let you know what fabrics you need for each session\, these can be purchased in the shop and you will receive a 10% workshop discount Please note there is no reduction or refund if you are unable to attend one of the sessions\, but we will provide you with the patterns and support to help you catch up should you not be able to attend.     \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Unlocking Overlocking 28th Feb
DESCRIPTION:A 3-hour class for you to gain knowledge on your own overlocker. Start off by learning how to thread your machine and adjusting tension. \nLearn about adjusting stitch length and diferential feed. \nOur tutor will guide you through a series of samples to help you master your overlocker including rolled hem & 3 and 4 thread overlocking. \nYour overlocker must be in working order \nPlease bring with you your overlocker\, thread\, power lead & foot pedal\, instruction book and tool kit (tweezers\, needle threader etc) all fabric samples etc are provided\, no need to bring anything else. \nWe have 3 overlockers that can be used on the day and will need to be reserved. \nPlease note: this is not a suitable class if you have a combined Overlock and Coverstitch machine\, please contact us for alternative suggestions \n

DESCRIPTION:Using a pre-cut 5-inch charm pack\, you will piece together the squares and learn the importance of precise seam allowances in this first step to quilting.\nOnce pieced together\, you will then learn about batting and backing the quilt\, then simple quilting effects using the sewing machine.\nWe will then show you how to finish off your quilt with binding.
